Intro to New Material:

What I, the teacher, am doing during this time:

-greeting my scholars at the door as they enter, I will quietly remind each scholar to grab their breakfast, their book, place backpacks and jackets/coats across back of chair, take a seat and read silently as they eat their breakfast.

-After children are done arriving I will continue to monitor  engagement as I walk around while my scholar continue to silently read and eat (with book in my hand silently reading as well.

Give time stamps when scholars shroud start closing books, cleaning area, returning back to seat quietly to transition to our next task/part of our day.

What are my scholars doing during this time:

-Scholars will greet me at the door as they enter the classroom. They will grab their breakfast and their books and take a seat and begin reading immediately while eating breakfast.

-The scholars will remain in their seats, silently reading (even if they have completed eating their breakfast) for the entire books and breakfast time until prompted by me (the teacher) to begin wrapping/cleaning up.

REHEARSE

Guided Practice:

This will occur daily and overly exaggerated throughout week one to emphasis its importance and steps. I will thank the children for their cooperation, commitment and patience as we work together to reach our goal of 100%

REINFORCE

Re-teach, Rehearse, Practice

If we are not at 100% by the end of week one, we will take time during week 2 in the mornings during our advisory block to physically practice “arriving and entering” the room for books and breakfast until the procedure is routine (at 100%) I will Remind the scholars of the importance of this time and the steps to accomplish 100% I will continue to show gratitude to the children for their cooperation, commitment and patience as we work together to reach our goal of 100%

In  the case that a scholar doesn’t comply:

I (Teacher) will issue a lightning quick correction followed by two quick positive comments. I will use the least invasive redirection methods such as: modeling and non-verbal cuing. If the noncompliance behavior continues and becomes noticeable by the other scholars I (teacher will) ask the scholar DO procedure again in a firm and formal tone or more than two scholars continues to not comply, we will conduct a whole-class reset until 100%. Any incidents after will go through the progressive classroom/school discipline routine.
