My Abbreviated Philosophy

"Give light and [the children] will find the way" -Ella Baker
It Takes a Village
The success of all of my scholars is truly a team effort. I first must create an environment that welcomes creativity, uniqueness, rigor and family. The classroom is home. I believe in family-oriented spaces, success in the classroom has many faces and is measured in many ways. If I create a space where the scholars feel appreciate, valued, and needed; important and capable, their engagement and performance will reflect.
There are many ways to achieve success in the classroom, I could write a book; but for now, I’ll just name a few ways:
· Set and maintain high expectations throughout the entire school year that are: fair, intentional and achievable
· Be proactive by eliminating distractions with clear and detailed schedules, procedures and routines that are explained, rehearsed, and reinforced and when applicable—visible.
· Meet my scholars where they are and making sure there is differentiation in the classroom.
· Have open-lines of communication. Being transparent and providing timely feedback to my scholars, updating progress and teaching them how to self-advocate and self-monitor progress as well so that they can communicate to me their needs, successes and desires.
· Continue to educate myself and obtaining professional development when applicable and keeping myself updated on the latest effective trends in teaching and learning.
· Praise my scholars for the big and small wins!
· Strive and maintain positive parental involvement
· Collaborate with co-worker, parents, admin, etc. when necessary
This list could go on and on. Furthermore, Consistently instilling belief and confidence in my scholars about the differences they will make in themselves, their family, community, country, world, and with hope education and ACTION! Together we go far!
